Traditional Balinese Dance Class for Children at Hotel Tugu Bali

There are dozens of dances in Bali, the first step is to learn basic gestures of Legong for ladies or Baris for men.

Inseparable from the dances, gamelan is the traditional music instrument used either as a singular performance or as the other half of a theater/dance performance of equal importance. Gamelan consists of various different instruments that make one whole orchestra—pick your favorite and indulge yourself in the sea of exotic sounds.

Join us in our commitment to keep alive the dying ancestral dances that perform the heart of Balinese culture and religious ceremonies:
• Topeng (Mask Dance): considered as sacred object, every mask is believed to possess spirits that must be captured by the dancer’s own.
• Barong: this dance represents the struggle between the Good and the Evil; Good being personified by Barong Ketet and Evil by Rangda.
• Legong: Performed by three dancers – the first character seen on the stage being a Condong (a female clown) and the other two representing the princess Rangkesari of Daha and King Lasem, who forcibly carries off Rangkesari
• Panyem Brama: dance usually used to welcome and greet people
• Kebyar Duduk: Kebyar means a sudden flare or flash. The style is a clear example of the direct relationship between music and dance
• Baris: With heroic poses and fiercely determined facial expression, this dance is an abstract character – study of a warrior
