From Java’s Volcanic Highlands to Batu Bolong: Kawisari Coffee Brings a Piece of the Plantation to Canggu

CANGGU, BALI – In the middle of Batu Bolong’s fast pace, Kawisari Coffee Farm Shop & Eatery offers a quiet place to pause — with coffee that carries the richness of where it comes from.

The beans served here are grown at Kawisari Coffee Plantation, located on the mist-covered slopes of Mount Kelud and Mount Kawi in East Java. It’s the oldest certified organic coffee plantation in Indonesia, and also one of the most awarded — most recently recognized by AVPA Paris for its specialty Java coffee.

Coffee with a Backstory

What’s served at Kawisari Canggu isn’t just a menu. It’s the result of years of careful farming by women growers, slow roasting, and small-batch brewing. From the now-signature Es Kopi Plantation Madu (sweetened only with coffee blossom honey), to the new Javanese Highball and Orange Bloom, each drink draws a line back to the source.

The café has also become a favorite for oat milk drinkers, with a full lineup of non-dairy lattes: vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, and blossom honey. For something different, there’s the Super Cocoa Elixir — raw cacao and warming spices in a tiny cup with big energy.

   Familiar Flavors, Made Thoughtfully

There’s no reinvention here — just well-made dishes rooted in comfort and balance. From Soto Ayam Kudus with free-range chicken to slow-cooked Jackfruit Rendang, Kawisari’s kitchen leans into ingredients that speak for themselves.

The Afternoon Tea, served Javanese style, is a favorite among guests who linger into late afternoons — a three-tier set with local sweets, savories, and warm blends poured into porcelain cups.

It’s a space that suits many moods: breakfast with your laptop, lunch after yoga, or a quiet moment in the garden when you’re not in a rush.

A Little More Than Coffee

Beyond the drinks and meals, Kawisari’s curated retail corner is full of things grown or made on the plantation — single-origin beans, sun-dried teas, herbal blends, handmade soaps, and pure coffee blossom honey.

And if you’re short on time, the takeaway window offers a quick way to bring a little Java with you, one iced latte or espresso at a time.

Canggu, But Different

Kawisari doesn’t follow trends — it follows seasons, soil, and stories. Whether you come in for the award-winning coffee or just stumble in off Batu Bolong by chance, there’s something grounding about this place. Quietly confident, never flashy — it’s a part of Canggu you return to.
