HOTEL TUGU BALI
End Of 2013 Year celebration
BARONG IDER BUMI
This year, Hotel Tugu Bali presents the rare opportunity to experience one the most spectacular cultural performances of the archipelago which is now difficult to find, the rich and colorful hundreds years old BARONG IDER BUMI.
Barong Ider Bumi is a tradition that dated hundreds of years back, held by the dwellers of Kemiren village near Banyuwangi on the coast of East Java. It is held once a year, traditionally one day after their religious holiday, and all the villagers have to be present. Barong Ider Bumi involves the dances of several Barongs (the symbolization of ancient magical mythological animal), created by their ancestors to bring prosperity and fertility, to invite all good spirits and drive away all the present bad spirits. This tradition is aimed to give thanks to the God Creator, and to ask for continued blessings in the coming year.
The Barongs are first given mantras and magical soul by a Pawing (wise magic man), then it is traditionally paraded through the village towards the west. Unlike the Balinese Barong, the Barongs involved in Barong Ider Bumi are somehow more primitive, more festive and joyful.
Hotel Tugu Bali’s end of the year event will start with a short Balinese blessing ceremony to welcome the New Year with hope, light and happiness. As is the tradition at Hotel Tugu, the dining experience will be a journey back to ancient times, started by the TUGUDOM, a parade of the Hindu King of Java, in a majestic procession consisting of around 30 soldiers, local women carrying palm leaf decorated elephant statues, all carrying authentic Majapahit-influenced dishes.
As we get closer to midnight, after the cultural performances there will be live DJ Performance followed by dancing.
Balinese Blessing Ceremony, welcome cocktail, Rajah Tugudom Ancient Dining Experience, Barong Ider Bumi Cultural Performance (Tari Gandrung, Tari Jaran Goyang, Tari Pergaulan), Live DJ Performance, Champagne Toast, dancing .
