Hotel Tugu Bali will be proudly hosting photographer Narra Jasmine for her solo exhibit. Dancing Flowers by Narra, explores the depths of mental exhaustion through the use of everyday objects and a small series of studio portraits will also be a part of the exhibition.
Narra is a French/Filipino photographer who majored in photojournalism and documentary photography, at her university in England. There she learned to open herself up to new adventures and found her niche in documenting people and the stories they have to tell, including her own.
“Dancing Flowers was created at a time when I found myself drained and emotionally exhausted. Composed of five individual series, the project represents different parts of mental exhaustion. It’s about all the emotions you might go through, when you realize you’re not in a good place, leading to feeling and seeing yourself fall apart. Other parts of the project are about trying to put yourself
back together again.
I used to consider still life photography boring and meaningless. Amidst my own depression, I was playing around with trinkets in my room and began to photograph them. I realized I could use everyday objects to depict what I was going through. I found that I was able to transform these mundane items into a sort of autobiographical work documenting what mental exhaustion felt like to me. It’s important that the work I create feels personal to myself, and that it will evoke emotion from others.
Dancing Flowers is about how I have viewed my own mind go through mental exhaustion and depression. It’s not a cry for help, rather it’s a hand reaching out to those who have also gone through a time in their lives where they may have felt drained, lost, or broken.”, Narra Jasmine explains her inspirations and train of thoughts.
