Grande Dame Faces the World
Art Exhibition
by
Inge E. Gijzen
As a magnificent center for creative excellence, Tugu Kunstkring Paleis is committed to bringing fresh talent and exciting culturally rich events to the public on a revolving basis. One of the missions of the building is to celebrate and promote artistic people from all over Indonesia as well as from countries around the world, and as part of its in-house series known as Celebrating Creativity, each month a new artist will be proudly showcased to the public.
Inge E. Gijzen is a Dutch national with Indonesian roots, born in Holland in 1958. Her life journey as a diplomat’s wife has necessitated her to live and travel to countries and regions around the globe, wherever her husband has been posted for an assignment. During her many years abroad, Inge has been inspired by the very different cultures, arts and surroundings in the cities she has lived in. The diversity of energies that she encountered in Tanzania, Colombia, Bangladesh, The Netherlands and Indonesia have definitely played a major role in shaping her creative vision. She developed much of her painting craft and style in Jakarta under the guidance of an inspirational art instructor named Indyra who influenced and stimulated her to further develop and experiment with various painting techniques. Inge has developed her own personal artistic style ranging from naturalist to abstract expressionist and enjoys working with acrylics, always using strong colors with many layers and much texture to achieve unique and harmonious results. Skillfully using a pallet knife, Inge taps into her expressive and spontaneous energy to literally sculpt dazzling images onto the blank canvas. Having been deeply inspired by works from great masters such as Popo Iskandar, Monet, Picasso, van Gogh, Gauguin and other contemporary abstract artists, Inge exhibits a colorful force that is unique and all her own!
Beside being a productive artist, Inge understands the need to give back and has developed philanthropic pursuits enabling her to share her gifts with the less fortunate. Her favorite quote is by Anne Frank : “No one has ever become poor by giving”. Absolutely a vibrant and inspirational Grande Dame herself, do not miss the Inge E. Gijzen Art Exhibition of abstract and ethnic portraits at Kunstkring.
Exhibition will run from 18-26 July 2013. Open to the public daily from 11 AM to 8 PM.
As an oasis of art, culture and culinary delights, it is certain that from now on Tugu Kunstkring Paleis will be on everyone’s lips.
