Live Balinese Dance & Music Performance at Hotel Tugu Bali, This Week: Jauk Keras, Cilinaya, and Cendrawasih Dance

This Thursday, 15th June 2o23 – Hotel Tugu Bali presents a special dance performance designed to revive and preserve the almost forgotten stories from the past. Three kinds of dances will be performed, Jauk Keras, Cilinaya, and Cendrawasih Dance.

Jauk Keras is a kind of Jauk dance, which is a classical solo mask dance from the 18th century, in which the dancer wears a mask and the crown of the King in the ancient Bali Kingdom. The dancer’s aim is to express the persona shown by the mask’s appearance. A ferocious figure is depicted by the red-colored mask, which has a vicious expression and aggressive movement.

In Balinese culture, the “Cili” expression symbolized beauty. This dance tells the story of a beautiful woman, which praises her goddess with her graceful & gentle movement. She dances with joy to show and demonstrate the beauty and elegance of the goddess to the audience.

The Cendrawasih dance is usually performed by two female dancers, one portraying a male and the other a female bird of paradise. The story of its dance describes the beauty of the bird itself as well as a narrative of a mating ritual.

At Hotel Tugu Bali,  indulge in the real experience of the cuisine and culture of Indonesia. Watch century-old Balinese dancers and live gamelan on the stage of the majestic Bale Agung, a soaring 15-meter-tall ancient architecture based on the now-extinct sacred hall of Bayung Gede village.
