10 Places to Enjoy High Tea in Bali

Would you look at the time, it’s tea o’clock!!!

For some, when there’s tea, there is happiness….it’s the drink that soothes the soul and solves your problems. Bali has no shortage of fantastic Afternoon Tea experiences, so without further ado… let’s start with a little history on where the tradition of the afternoon tea comes from and why it has become so famous in Bali…

The Great Tradition of Afternoon Tea

The ritual of “Afternoon Tea” originated in Britain in the early 1840s and was used as a mini meal to slake your appetite which preceded the seated dinner at 8pm. Traditionally ‘Afternoon Tea’ is a meal composed of finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, mini sweet pastries, cakes and tea or coffee.
Unique Afternoon Tea in Bali

This English tea-ritual has become popular all over the world, and in Bali it has also been embraced and tweaked to suit a ritual on the Island paradise. Think large terraces overlooking the Indian Ocean, the evocative background of the Nusa Archipelago, luxury restaurants nestled in tropical jungles, trendy bars surrounded by the crowded beaches ~ The Island of Gods has the many places to enjoy an afternoon tea experience, in exceptional locations, featuring both international and local treats.

Hotel Tugu, Canggu

Hotel Tugu is an eclectic mixture of style and elegance and it’s like a window into the history of Bali. This 5-star hotel is an open air museum… and it is thanks to the owner’s passion for art and antiques that during his travels he was able to accumulate such a vast collection of Balinese artifacts.

The property is surrounded by a huge park made up of trees and plants that has the air of a fairy garden, which seems far from the bustle of Canggu, although in reality it is right in the middle of it. Floating water lilies and lotus… even Monet would be jealous of this location!

You can enjoy your Hotel Tugu afternoon tea experience in a number of different locations of the resort. You can sip it at the lounge restaurant, relax on the superb panoramic terrace looking over the ocean, choose a private bungalow within the resort – there many spots to choose from when it comes to indulging in afternoon tea here.

Tea time features a choice of six snacks such as Carrot cake, Vanilla Sus (Indonesian version of the French éclair, fried dough pastry with creamy filling), Semar Mendem (dough made by hand with flour and egg), Kue Lumpur, Tahu Brontak and Wingko Babat (traditional Indonesian pancake-like snack made from coconuts). All accompanied of course by tea (or coffee).

Enjoying afternoon tea in this landscape is simply beautiful and soothing!
